Please join me for a breath taking photography workshop in Grand Teton National Park.  Just thinking about Grand Teton National park brings a smile to my face and a strong desire to drop everything, pack my bags and drive to Wyoming.  Grand Teton is perhaps my favorite national park, surpassing even Yosemite, and the perfect location for a photography workshop.  I don't know if there is anything more beautiful than seeing the first soft rays of the day's light bathing the mountain peaks in soft beautiful hues.  We'll have the opportunity to visit all the most beautiful and memorable locations in the park, some of which we'll just have to visit more than once, they're that magnificent!   Another added benefit of scheduling the workshop during this time of the year is the afternoon thunderstorms that often sweep through the area and then vanish as quickly as they arrived making for some fantastic and dramatic sunsets.  As with all my workshops, I've designed them to help take your creativity to a new level.  Through a combination of both in-the-field image sessions and mid-day class/lecture sessions on many different topics both technical (Photoshop) and artistic, I want to get you to start thinking differently as an artist and spark your artistic vision.

Workshop Itinerary

Tuesday June 7th - We'll meet in the afternoon for introductions, orientation and get to know each other a little bit before a short discussion on one of many topics that I'll be touching on during our time together.  Possible topics include "Learning to See Light", "Composing for Landscapes", "Elements of a landscape with impact", "Scouting for Great Images" or something else equally as fun.  We'll end the day shooting the sunset in the Park.

Wednesday June 8th - We'll be starting our days early for beautiful sunrise sessions at different locations within Grand Teton National Park.  We have a number of locations to choose from, including Schwabacher Landing, the famed Snake River overlook, Oxbox bend and Mormon row.  After our sunrise session we'll head to one of my favorite locations in the park to create images of  Bison, often with their young.  We'll then head back into Jackson for breakfast at my favorite spot...anywhere! After breakfast we'll break for a few hours to experience the town of Jackson and a bit of rest.

We'll meet in the afternoon for a classroom session where I'll show you some Photoshop tips and techniques I use to bring the most of your images, start our print sharing session and give you some time to work on your images with me there for help and guidance.  We'll end the day at a wonderful sunset location such as Jenny Lake, Antelope Flats for some wild flowers or Oxbow Bend depending on conditions.

Thursday June 9th - We'll greet the day at another beautiful location for sunrise and the day will go generally the same as Wednesday but with new places to explore.  During the afternoon we'll meet for a discussion, Q&A and finish our print sharing and work on images before heading into Jackson to visit some of the beautiful photography galleries the town has offer.  Then it's off for another wonderful sunset in the park.

Friday June 10th - Our last day together, we start the day with a wonderful sunrise and breakfast as usual.  The afternoon will be left to you, Jackson is a wonderful town to explore and if you haven't done so already this will give you an opportunity.   Also, rafting down the Snake river is a lot of fun and there are a few local rafting companies in the area, if enough people are up to it perhaps we'll do a little white water rafting...we'll see.  We'll end the workshop with an evening dinner as a group and then sunset in the park.

Skill Level: Intermediate to Advanced - Participates should have a good working knowledge of how to operate their camera in manual mode.  In addition having a good knowledge of stops, shutter speeds and f/stops will allow you to focus your attention on creativity and creating high quality images.

WHAT TO EXPECT: Our days will start early as the beautiful light of sunrise waits for no one and is the best time to photograph in Grand Teton National Park.  We'll greet the day's at such places as Schwabacher's landing where Grand Teton and it's neighboring peaks reflect in the still water of a beaver pond; or  the picturesque barns of Mormon Row.  After enjoying a beautiful sunrise we'll head to some of my favorite locations for wildflowers or herds of Bison with their young  grazing and interacting in the grassy meadows.  Breakfast and a morning break will be either on your own or as a group at my favorite breakfast place before our afternoon classroom session, print sharing and discussion.  We'll then break for a few hours so you can relax or explore the wonderful town of Jackson, filled with a number of wonderful shops, galleries and restaurants before ending the day with a sunset shoot and a good nights rest.  As with all my workshops the days are long but  they're filled with one-on-one instruction, lessons, discussion and print sharing that you can apply immediately in the field.

Lodging: While lodging is not included in the price of the workshop I have arranged for a special room rate of only $94 for either a double or single king room at The Point: Inn and Suites in downtown Jackson.  We also have a conference room reserved for our afternoon discussions and classroom time at the Point and it's lobby will be our meeting place each morning before heading out for our sunrise session.  I've done a lot of research leading up to selecting the perfect lodging for the workshop and I feel The Point Inn and Suites offers the best lodging in Jackson when you combine convenience, location, affordability and comfort.

Physical Requirements: The workshop doesn't require much in the way of trail hiking or elevations gains as most of the best photography locations are relatively close to the parking area, with a quarter mile.  However it is good to note that many of the trials are dirt paths and can be uneven in places.  In addition we'll be doing much of our hiking in relatively dark conditions of pre-dawn and post sunset light so remember those flash lights.  Also, we'll be up early as we will be on location at least an hour before sunrise in order to allow you to scout the locations and find our compositions.  We'll also be out late as sunset is very late, close to 9pm.  We may be working at elevations between 4,500 and 7,000 feet.
